Chinese Chíng Dynasty paintings, 1834.

This collection of watercolors on rice paper document the reign of Tao-kuang; there are pictures of domestic life and the artistry of flowers and butterflies. The donor of this collection acquired the paintings from the nephew of her husband, Benjamin Franklin Reinhart, a mid-19th centurypainter. The paintings were taken by an English officer in 1860 during a raid on Peking and had been the property of Emperor Tao-kuang.
